چکیده

We report the application of our dc SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) spectrometer [C. Connor, J. Chang, and A. Pines, Rev. Sci. Instrum. 61, 1059( 1990)] to nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies of aluminum-27, and boron-II in crystalline and glassy solids. Our results give eqQ /h = 2.38 MHz and 1] = 0.0 for a-A120 3 at 4.2 K. For the natural mineral petalite (LiAISi4 010)' we obtain e qQ /h = 4.56 MHz and 1] = 0.47. The quadrupole resonance frequency is 1467 kHz in boron nitride, and in the vicinity of 1300 kHz for various borates in the B20 3 . xH2 0 system. The distribution of boron environments in a B20 3 glass gives rise to a linewidth of about 80 kHz in the SQUID detected resonance.

Magnetic resonance spectrometer with a de SQUID detector

We describe a dc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) based magnetic resonance spectrometer particularly suited to measurements in the frequency range of 100 kHz to several megahertz. Results are presented for nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) of boron-II in boron nitride at 4.2 K, yielding {uQ = 1467 ± 2 kHz. We also present a direct measurement of the methyl group tunneling fr...

Direct measurement of current-phase relations in superconductor/topological insulator/superconductor junctions.

Proximity to a superconductor is predicted to induce exotic quantum phases in topological insulators. Here, scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) microscopy reveals that aluminum superconducting rings with topologically insulating Bi2Se3 junctions exhibit a conventional, nearly sinusoidal 2π-periodic current-phase relations. Pearl vortices occur in longer junctions, indic...

Investigating the Effects of Molecular Oxygen Impurity on the Quadrupole Coupling Constants of Boron Nitride Nanotubes: Computational Studies

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to investigating the effects of themolecular oxygen impurity on the quadrupole coupling constant (Qcc) parameters of armchair and zigzagboron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs). Optimization processes have been performed to relax the original andimpure structures of the investigated BNNTs. Afterwards, the Qcc parameters have been evaluated...

SQUID-detected microtesla MRI in the presence of metal.

In magnetic resonance imaging performed at fields of 1 T and above, the presence of a metal insert can distort the image because of susceptibility differences within the sample and modification of the radiofrequency fields by screening currents. Furthermore, it is not feasible to perform nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy or acquire a magnetic resonance image if the sample is enclose...

Low Frequency Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance with SQUID Amplifiers*

The dc SQ U ID (Superconducting QUantum Interference Device) can be configured as an ampli fier of spin-echos with a noise temperature of approximately 10 mK (f/1 MHz) at an operating temperature of 1.5 K. A Fourier transform spectrometer based on a SQ U ID with a superconducting input circuit and operated in a flux-locked loop is used to obtain nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectra in a ...
